The OFFICIAL Heavy Metal discussion thread

So, since every intelligent person I know is a Metalhead (including myself) I've decided to start this thread to discuss the most important thing in the world: Metal music. Its the best, and you know how I know? Because it is says so itself and to my knowledge it is the only music in the world that demands you swear alligience and worship it! No other music dares to make proclaimations like that because they know they can't step up.

So, these last 30 days or so have been pretty momentous. Infernus got the rights back and is making a new album, Varg is out of prison, and a new Metal Beherit album is due tommorow and all reports I've heard is that it is everything everyone was hoping for and more. Very interesting times, and despite the continued prevalence of useless -core bands it's looking like we may be on the verge of a new Metallic renaissance with a bunch of the presumed incapacitated old guard leading the way.

Anyways, feel free to discuss anything related to Metal: new releases, old releases, shows you've seen/are going to see, what bands you think are great/suck, etc.

Btw, this thread is for Metalheads only. If you aren't one you need to hit the back button on your browser and re-evaluate your life's priorities.

One last note: I would call for this thread to be stickied, but Metal is so important that everyone will post in this thread. So it will stay on top on its own.

The first time I watched the video to "One", I was weirded out for like 2 days. Awesome song though.

Eh, it's just old flicks. If you want to be delightfully weirded out check out the music video of "Turbo Lover". You'll never listen to the song, or Judas Priest, the same way again.

(Actually, JP has lots of videos that way. Everything from "Point of Entry" comes to mind...)

I love a load of those "-core" bands that you detest

Despised Icon, the Black Dahlia Murder.....that kind of stuff

That's nothing to be proud of. Actually, that's something you'd want to keep to yourself. Got any rashes in any uncomfortable places you want to tell us about?

I'm totally depressed. For the first time in years I will not be able to attend Sweden Rock Festival this summer. So between the 3,´rd and 6,´th of June, you will be able to find me, under my bed, crying! I'm going to miss Rainbow!!!! (Or as close to Rainbow as you can get these days) *swearing heavily in my head* If you have a chance to go there, do it! It is absolutely fantastic!

Sweden is a bit out of my travel budget range, atm, but idk about festivals anymore. As neat as it would be to see Heaven and Hell, Immortal, and Motorhead, the rest of that lineup is kindof... uhhh.

I gotta say, all the big metal festivals have really turned to shit lately. Ozzfest is nothing but mallrock anymore, Wacken is pure commerce, Pagan Fest has turned into a big gay pride rally, and Gathering of Shadows is full of posers and christians... Don't even get me started on Maryland Death Fest and Texas Death Fest, nothing but porn groove influced free jazz grindcore fusion and useless BDM (aka: deathcore with different vocals).

arg-fallbackName="HomoOfficioHomini"/>
Yeah, the lineup has been better, and I have already seen Motà¶rhead and Heaven and Hell so... But to me it is kind of a tradition to go. The people are great, the crew is fantastic and there are a lot of unsigned bands that get a chance to play on the smaller stages. So far I haven't been disappointed.

I was gonna go see the most recent Paganfest. The lineup wasn't the best, but the tickets were $15 and it would have been fun to see all the mallcore kids try to mosh and get thrown out by security. I can't remember why I didn't go. :|

So, I'm listening to the new Beherit album and so far... it's fucking great! Everything everyone was hoping it would be and more! This is one for the ages. :D

This fills my heart with joy, and a desire to go outside and beat up a christian.

None that I'm aware of. Unless you mean it is ironic with Black Metal bands having lots of occult/undead themes, or that the use of the word "resurrection" is strange to apply to a genre so vehemently anti-christian when the word is so frequently used in referrence to christ.

Really I just mean that a legendary band has come back from obscurity and released an album that is both true to black metal idealogical orthodoxy and musically groundbreaking, and that it will lead to a return of Black Metal as a vibrant musical genre with a meaningful message to express musically and spiritually. That's all.

Rammstein > all

Wrongo. First off, Rammstein isn't Metal, it's that silly new german hardness nonsense. Second, Rammstein isn't good. Goofy? Sure. Amusing? Yes. Good? Not so much.

Hate to burst your bubble there, dude, but that's how it has to be.

Thread on.

All of metal is dead now... The only good days were 1980 - 1995. From there on it's just a parade of commercialized filth claiming to be metal.

you still wear leather pants don't you?

Metal is stronger now than it's ever been, it used to be dominated by a handful of bands, now there are hundreds.

you think bands like the dillinger escape plan and Fantomas could have existed in the 80's?

It still is dominated by a handful of bands. The hundreds you are talking about are the people who think that having a guitar and depressing lyrics makes you an artist.

And I do think they could have, but luckily for the people back then, they didn't.
And Metal isn't strong now, it doesn't mean anything. It used to mean rebellion, now it's just about who rigs more Grammies.

? im glad your banned sounds like you dont know much about music.

my two favourite generes are metal and industrial

rammstein combines both (hence - industrial metal)

they have one of the largest fanbases of any band still going, they have one of the largest age ranges (roughly 12 - 60ish)

thier studio albums are excellent

they aren't afraid to push the boat out (unlike many other "metal" bands that just want to stay safe and "mainstream")

they can play thier instruments amazingly well live and thier live stage shows are just incredible.

they arent afraid to sing in german (tbh if you tried to translate into english it wouldnt make much sense), till lindermann does it well, most people dont care even if they cant understand it.

they sell world stadium tours out within ~15 mins.

hugely successfull cd/dvd sales and have won several awards. does it make them mainstream and not "real" metal? no, because that refers to thier music which is still amazingly individual (im glad universal records has granted thier freedom to do whatever they want)

cant get much more win than that
